Introduction
Austral Construction is an established engineering and construction contractor delivering projects across the mining and infrastructure sectors. The Austral Graduate Program is a structured development pathway designed to support graduate engineers as they transition into professional engineering roles within live project environments.
About the program
Graduates are placed into operational roles aligned to project and business needs and are supported through structured development and practical experience.
Throughout the program, graduates gain:
- Exposure to live construction and pre-construction environments
- Experience across the full project lifecycle — from tendering and planning through to project delivery
- Office-based and site-based engineering experience
- Mentoring from experienced engineers and project leaders
- Enrolment in the Engineers Australia Graduate Development Program
- Development aligned to Austral’s Competency Framework, with regular feedback and progression discussions
Program Structure
- Year 1 – Office-based experience focused on tendering, planning and design, with exposure to projects supported through these activities.
- Year 2 – FIFO site-based experience supporting active project delivery as a core component of the program.
This structure ensures graduates develop both technical capability and professional judgement while gaining practical experience across diverse project environments.
About you
The program is suited to graduates who:
- Have completed or are completing a Civil, Construction, Structural or related Engineering degree
- Are interested in developing a long-term career within the construction industry
- Are willing to work FIFO as part of the program
- Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
- Hold full Australian working rights and a current driver’s licence
- We also welcome expressions of interest from third-year students seeking part-time experience while completing their studies.
