Lilly Rail Renewal
As Head Contractor, Austral Construction delivered structural refurbishment and rail renewal works across three Rio Tinto rail bridges in the Pilbara, restoring structural integrity and addressing previously identified defects and non-conforming works.
Austral delivered repairs and upgrades to Lilly Bridges 1012A, 1013A and 1014A, including demolition of existing walkways and handrails and installation of new gussets, bracing, walkway modules and compliant handrail systems. The team also completed structural steel modifications, coating repairs to damaged hot-dip galvanised components and the straightening of 12 modules and associated outriggers.
Further structural works included the removal of 76 gussets and reinstatement of bolts and knee braces, installation of bolts and lock nuts, ballast kerb realignment and ballast infill, together with new permanent bridge scaffolding platforms to support ongoing access.
Austral also delivered the associated rail works, including sleeper removal and replacement, re-railing and ballast replacement across the project locations.
Managing the complete package from access, survey and fabrication through to installation and commissioning, Austral successfully delivered the multidisciplinary refurbishment works required to improve the safety, compliance and ongoing performance of critical heavy-haul rail infrastructure.
