Onslow Desalination Plant
Austral Construction was engaged to deliver critical marine infrastructure for the Onslow Water Treatment Plant, which will treat seawater from Beadon Bay to supply up to 1.5ML of drinking water per day.
Austral managed and delivered the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and installation of the intake and outfall pipeline infrastructure, including drilling and pulling two 450mm, one 250mm and one 225mm HDPE pipelines. The works also included construction of the HDD drill pad, assembly of intake and outfall manifolds, pressure testing and subsea installation using specialist dive teams.
Offshore, Austral dredged approximately 500m³ at the subsea intake area and installed the cardinal marker and pipeline scour protection mats.
With the location and integrity of the seawater intake critical to the plant’s long-term performance and water quality, Austral combined specialist marine construction, HDD and subsea expertise to deliver an integrated solution for an essential piece of water infrastructure.
