Cloudbreak TLO Weighbridge Upgrade

Improving the efficiency and accuracy of train load-out operations at Fortescue’s flagship Cloudbreak mine, Austral Construction delivered the civil infrastructure works required to support the replacement of the existing TLO weighbridge.

Austral’s scope included demolition of existing infrastructure, electrical and drainage works, and the prefabrication and installation of new track slabs that formed the foundations for the Meridian weighbridge instrumentation. This included the offsite prefabrication and delivery of 30-tonne track slabs, reducing the amount of construction required during the critical shutdown window.

New drainage infrastructure was also installed to protect the weighbridge from flooding and better manage flows generated by operational washdown activities.

To minimise disruption to operations, Austral carefully sequenced the project across three phases: pre-shutdown works while the facility remained online, critical installation activities during the offline shutdown, and post-shutdown works following the return to operations.

Through detailed planning, prefabrication and disciplined shutdown execution, Austral successfully delivered the infrastructure required to support a more efficient and reliable train load-out system within a live mining environment.
