DoT Navigation Aid and Replacement
Austral Construction delivered the design and replacement of four coastal navigation markers for the Western Australian Department of Transport, replacing existing infrastructure affected by corrosion, weather exposure and fatigue.
Austral developed an innovative micropile solution that eliminated the need for conventional earthmoving equipment and extensive clearing in environmentally sensitive coastal locations. The new navigation markers were installed using Surefoot S600 16P footings and associated micropiles, creating a compact, man-portable foundation engineered to withstand harsh coastal and marine conditions.
The scope included the design and supply of the new navigation markers, controlled demolition and disposal of the existing structures, installation of the new foundations and markers, and commissioning of associated electrical services.
Where conventional land-based access would have caused significant environmental disturbance, Austral used helicopters to transport new navigation markers and remove existing anchor debris.
By combining innovative foundation design with alternative construction and access methods, Austral successfully delivered essential maritime infrastructure while significantly reducing disturbance to the surrounding coastal environment.
