Parker Point Marine Offloading Facility
Austral Construction delivered a new Marine Offloading Facility (MOF) at Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s existing Parker Point wharf, enabling the roll-on, roll-off of fully assembled bucketwheel reclaimers being transported to site as part of Rio Tinto’s replacement program.
Austral’s scope included the installation of 55 large-diameter piles directly into granite with strengths of up to 200 MPa, together with three mooring piles, precast anchor blocks and capping beam shells. Works also included the in-situ capping beam and slab, tie-back system, earthworks, revetment armouring, mooring equipment and cathodic protection.
To overcome the exceptionally hard ground conditions, Austral introduced new piling technology, drawing on Keller’s international expertise, overseas training and specialist site support. Austral also collaborated with Bechtel and Agilitas to optimise the precast solution and safely and efficiently construct the heavily reinforced capping beam.
Despite the technical complexity of the works, Austral completed the facility within the original 12-month program. The MOF was ready for use in early February 2026 and successfully closed out to the client’s satisfaction.
