Parker Point Stockyard Earthworks
Supporting the ongoing operation and future capability of Rio Tinto’s Parker Point stockyard, Austral Construction delivered an extensive package of civil, earthworks and infrastructure upgrades within a complex operational environment.
Austral’s scope included bulk earthworks, pavement construction, drainage and ancillary works, together with the construction of haul roads, sealed and unsealed light vehicle access roads and an extension to the reclaimer runway.
Works also supported critical stockyard and reclaimer infrastructure, including new reclaimer maintenance pads, storm and maintenance cradles, jacking pads, buffer end stops, cable and hose anchor points, thrust blocks and cyclone locking pin foundations. Existing infrastructure was removed or modified as required to facilitate the upgrades.
Austral also delivered civil works for a new electrical substation, including bulk earthworks, pavements, drainage, concrete slabs and piers, alongside new electrical distribution infrastructure, plant lighting, cable pull pits and a new services corridor.
Drainage and water management formed another key component of the package, including modification of the existing sedimentation pond and realignment of the stockyard stormwater outfall.
Working around existing services, operational infrastructure and active stockyard interfaces, Austral coordinated a diverse and technically complex scope to deliver the civil foundations and supporting infrastructure required for Parker Point’s ongoing operations and future capability.
