When routine maintenance identified a critical section of rail needing urgent attention, Rio Tinto faced a challenge that required precision and expertise.
A section of rail along Rio Tinto’s railway corridor needed comprehensive ballast cleaning, track renewal, and replacement to ensure safe and efficient operations. The task involved not only removing and replacing existing ballast but also upgrading to new rail sections and addressing stress transitions.
Austral Construction was engaged to handle the complete rail and ballast renewal. We expertly removed and replaced the ballast, upgraded to 40TAL sleepers, installed new under-ballast matting, and laid fresh ballast. Our team also replaced, welded, and stressed new rail sections, ensuring the track met design levels and safety standards.
