Roy Hill Process Water Dam

Supporting Roy Hill’s drive to increase production capacity to 60Mtpa, Austral Construction delivered critical upgrades to the process water dam infrastructure that supported the mine’s processing operations.

Austral’s scope included the removal, temporary storage and reinstatement of existing raw water delivery pipework, removal of the existing Bitumen Geosynthetic Membrane (BGM) liner and installation of a new Geosynthetic Clay Liner beneath the reinstated BGM liner.

The team also removed existing dredging anchor blocks, sections of the southern embankment wall and DN1050 steel suction pipework. The suction infrastructure was subsequently modified and reinstalled, together with the construction of a new concrete wing wall.

To improve long-term water management and dam performance, Austral regraded the site to achieve positive drainage towards collection drains and culverts, while specialist contractors supported the reinstatement of the BGM liner.

Working on infrastructure critical to the operation of the processing plant, Austral coordinated civil, mechanical and specialist lining activities to successfully deliver the upgrades and support Roy Hill’s broader production objectives.
